Holy Month of Ramadan is officially upon us. Explore Ramadan Do's and Don'ts and get familiar with etiquette and social norms to adhere to in order to embrace the spirit of the holy month and enjoy it to the fullest.
What is Ramadan?
For practicing Muslims, Ramadan is a month of self-discipline, gratitude, introspection and reflection. From sunrise to sunset, Muslims forgo food, drink, smoking and impure thoughts, which allows them to focus on prayer and to connect with God. Fasting allows Muslims to comprehend the pain and suffering of those who live in poverty and suffer from famine, making them feel more grounded and grateful for all God has blessed them with. Ramadan falls on the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. This year Ramadan commenced on 10 March and is expected to end on the sighting of the new moon in approximately four weeks time.
